Family counselling for adults, finally
Every couples app stops at two people. Families of adults — parents and grown-up children, siblings sharing care for a parent, blended families, people reconnecting after years apart — have had nothing built for them. Sameside is.
How a family circle works
One person creates the circle and invites up to five other adults. Everyone answers alone; the questions are written for families (roles, expectations, independence — no intimacy items). Nobody ever sees anyone else’s answers. The coach reads everyone and writes a formulation, a plan, and worksheets that produce one page for the whole family without attributing a word.
What the plan works on
The unwritten rules, direct lines instead of triangles, advice only on request, roles and respect, and a family meeting run from one phone with an agenda and a timer. The family reset programme runs six weeks.
Who it is for
Parents and adult children renegotiating the grown-up relationship. Siblings dividing care, money or holidays. Step-families finding their centre. Anyone taking the first small steps back after estrangement.
Built for your situation
Blended and step-family help
Step-parents earn authority slowly, loyalty binds are normal, and the couple needs protected time. A coach for the adults in a blended family.
Parents and adult children: repairing the relationship
Advice by invitation, strings named, hierarchy renegotiated. A private coach for parents and their grown-up children who want to be on the same side.
Adult siblings: sharing the care, the money and the holidays
Old roles resurface under stress. A private coach for adult siblings sharing care for a parent, an inheritance, or a family that keeps falling out at Christmas.
Reconnecting after family estrangement
About one in five UK families is touched by estrangement. A private coach for the first small, predictable steps back — without re-litigating the past.
Two-minute reads
From parent and child to two adults
The relationship between parents and grown-up children has to be renegotiated. Advice by invitation is the hinge.
Why holidays turn you back into a teenager
Adult siblings carry the roles they were given: the responsible one, the baby, the peacemaker. Stress puts everyone back in costume.
Why the message goes through your sister
When two people are tense, a third gets pulled in. Families run on triangles. Taking it direct dissolves them.
Coming back after distance
Reconciliation rarely works by re-litigating the past. It works when the person seeking repair listens, acknowledges impact, and changes something visible.
Questions people ask
Is there family therapy for adults in the UK?
Yes, through private family therapists and some Relate centres, typically £70–£120 a session with everyone attending. Sameside offers a private, coach-led alternative for £15.98 a month plus £4.99 for each extra adult, or the programme as a one-off.
What if one family member refuses?
The rest can still work. Anyone who joins gets a personal plan; the shared plan needs everyone in the circle, so keep the circle to the people who will take part.
